The Simone and Cino del Duca Foundation of the Institut de France awards each year a scientific Grand Prix based on the recommendations of a jury of members of the Institut de France. In 2009, the prize will be awarded in the field of mathematics and its applications.
The deadline for mailing the application is January 25, 2009 (inclusive).
Theme for 2009: Mathematics and its applications
Current mathematics is equally active as an autonomous activity and as a field nourished by its interactions with other sciences, including human studies. The Grand Prix will reward an internationally recognized French or European mathematician proposing an ambitious research project based on the collective work of a group under his/her direction. The proposal should describe the scientific objectives and the means that will be used to implement the project (duration of the project, invitations, meetings, seminars, ...).
The amount of the Grand Prix will be 364 000 euros :
Applications must be mailed electronically as a single file (PDF format).
The applications may be completed in French or English and must contain:
1) The application form
2) a letter of application for the Grand Prix scientifique Simone et Cino Del Duca signed by the head of the group
3) the CV of the head of the group (2 pages maximum)
4) a brief CV of each members of the group
5) description of results obtained by the group (5 pages maximum)
6) a description of the research proposal and the expected use of the Grand Prix (3 to 5 pages maximum)
7) a list of major publications

Applications will be examined by a jury presided over by the President of the French Academy of Sciences and composed of members of the Institut de France. The jury will seek the opinion of French and foreign experts.
The Grand Prix will be awarded at the Institut de France, under the Cupola, on June 10, 2009.
