How to apply to Choose France for Science?

Applications are submitted via the Choose France for Science platform, managed by the ANR. Two scenarios are possible.

Applying to Choose France for Science

The application process consists of two stages.

  1. First, the researcher must contact the programme agencies covering the disciplinary fields of the project they wish to implement, based on their prior connections with the French research system or using the list below.

  2. The researcher then needs to develop a joint project with their host institution. The project and application must be submitted via the Choose France for Science platform available on the ANR website.

Criteria for assessing applications 

Applications will be reviewed based on:

  • the scientific quality and feasibility of the proposed project;
  • the context and relevance of the application;
  • the researcher's motivations for conducting their work in France;
  • the ability to secure additional funding (European, institutional, private).

Applications are submitted and reviewed by the jury on a rolling basis.

Jury

Each of the thematic fields, including the humanities and social sciences, is represented within the jury.

The jury is chaired by Alain Fischer, physician, Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France, member of the Academy of Sciences, professor of paediatric immunology and researcher in medicine and gene therapy.
