A flexible and ambitious framework

€100 milliontotal budget

50% co-financed by the French government through France 2030, up to a maximum of €2.5 million per laureate

With a total budget of €100 million, Choose France for Science is aimed at top-level researchers currently working abroad, across all disciplines.

The programme has two objectives:

  • to enable researchers to join a French academic institution to carry out a cutting-edge project, under conditions agreed between the institution and the researcher: permanent position, initial fixed-term contract, etc.
  • to provide the necessary resources to launch their work in France under optimal conditions, through start-up grants that will also allow them to apply for national and European calls for proposals to continue the research. These start-up grants cover a period of two to three years.

Each selected project may benefit from:

  • co-financing from the State through France 2030, covering up to 50% of the total amount,
  • up to a maximum of €2.5 million per laureate,
  • additional funding from host institutions, local authorities or the private sector.

Selected researchers commit to submitting, at the end of the three-year period, a competitive European or international project (e.g. ERC, EIC Pathfinder, Marie Skłodowska-Curie…).
